CBDA Strengthens Program Coordinating Unit Through Strategic Engagement on the UN SDGs

July 9, 2025 (Updated)

The Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) is enhancing its existing Program Coordinating Unit (PCU) to better align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), following a strategic engagement with Mr. Appeh A. Auta II, a Master’s student from the Turin School of Development. Mr. Auta’s research on the UN SDGs will contribute to strengthening the PCU’s capacity to coordinate donor-supported programs and ensure sustainable, impact-driven development across CBDA’s initiatives.

On Friday, 4th July 2025, the Managing Director/CEO of the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA), Alhaji Tijjani Musa Tumsah, hosted Mr. Appeh A. Auta II, a Master’s student from the Turin School of Development, currently undertaking a thesis focused on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

Mr. Auta’s visit comes at a pivotal time, as the CBDA is taking concrete steps to strengthen its Program Coordinating Unit (PCU)—a central structure responsible for the coordination of donor-supported initiatives, bilateral partnerships, and programmatic alignment within the Authority’s mandate.

Discussions during the meeting emphasized the importance of integrating global sustainability frameworks, especially the UN SDGs, into CBDA’s strategic and operational outlook. Mr. Auta’s research is expected to contribute meaningfully to enhancing the PCU’s capacity for evidence-based planning, sustainability alignment, and impact monitoring across all active and future development programs.

The PCU which was set up with the aim of driving donor collaboration and program synergy within CBDA, will benefit from a more deliberate alignment with the SDGs, ensuring that interventions in agriculture, water management, and livelihoods not only respond to local needs but also contribute to Nigeria’s broader international development commitments.

This collaboration underscores CBDA’s commitment to global best practices in development planning and its openness to knowledge exchange that drives institutional effectiveness.

The CBDA commends Mr. Auta for his timely academic pursuit and wishes him success as he advances in his research. The Authority remains committed to supporting his work and to strengthening internal systems that promote inclusive, sustainable development across the region.
