CBDA Leadership Conducts Assessment Visit to Alau Dam Ahead of Rainy Season

July 11, 2025 (Updated)

CBDA Chairman Prof. Abdu Dauda Biu and top engineers assessed Alau Dam confirming its stability ahead of the rainy season. The visit reflects CBDA’s commitment to safety and proactive water resource management.

As part of proactive measures to ensure the safety and functionality of the Alau Dam during the upcoming rainy season, a delegation from the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) carried out an on-site assessment on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

The high-level delegation was led by Engr. Prof. Abdu Dauda Biu, Chairman of the CBDA Board of Directors, and Engr. Mohammed Shettima, Executive Director and Head of the Engineering Department. They were accompanied by Engr. Yahaya Usman, the Chief Civil Engineer overseeing Alau Dam operations, and Mr. Muhammed Bukar Alibe, CBDA’s Public Relations Officer and Head of the Information Unit.

The primary objective of the visit was to evaluate the current structural and operational condition of the dam as rainfall activity intensifies across the region. During the inspection, it was observed that both the reservoir side and river flow of the dam remained stable and posed no immediate concern.

The outcome of the assessment was positive, indicating that the dam is in good condition and capable of handling expected inflows in the short term. This reaffirms the commitment of CBDA’s leadership to infrastructure integrity, public safety, and efficient water resource management in the Lake Chad Basin area.

The Authority will continue to monitor the situation closely and remains dedicated to implementing preventive measures that ensure the long-term resilience and functionality of the Alau Dam.
