Federal Ministry of Water Resources visits Alau Dam for Project Assessment and Flood Risk Monitoring

The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and CBDA inspects progress of rehabilitation works at the Alau Dam and monitor water flow levels ahead of the rainy season. The aim of the visit is to evaluate project progress and mitigate potential flood risks. The assessment will guide future interventions to enhance the dam’s safety and flood management capacity.


As part of the ongoing efforts to safeguard communities from potential flood risks, the Director of Dams and Reservoirs, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Ali I. Dallas, paid a working visit to Alau Dam, Maiduguri, on Thursday, 31st July, 2025. The visit was on behalf of the Honorable Minister, Engr. (Prof.) Joseph Terlumun Utsev, to evaluate the progress of the ongoing works at the dam and monitor water flow levels ahead of the peak rainy season. 

During the visit, Engr. Dallas, accompanied by project engineers and key stakeholders, conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation works and monitored the dam’s water levels to ensure compliance with safety standards. He conveyed the Honorable Minister’s commendations to all parties working diligently to ensure the success of the project. 

The CBDA was represented by Engr. Mohammed Shettima, Executive Director Engineering, Other CBDA officials present included Engr. Yahaya Mohammed Usman, Chief Civil Engineer, Mohammed Garba, Planning Officer I, as well as the Head of Information/PRO Mohammed Bukar Alibe. Representatives of the contracting firm and supervising engineers were also in attendance. 

The Director emphasized that the assessment visit was crucial to guiding the future interventions aimed at enhancing the capacity of the dam to mitigate flood risks, protect downstream communities, and safeguard lives and properties.

CBDA remains committed to collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and other relevant agencies to ensure the successful completion of the rehabilitation works and the effective management of the Alau Dam.
