FG Reiterates Commitment to Boost Food Security.
The Federal Government has re-affirmed its unwavering commitment to support the River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) toward boosting food security across the country in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, made the pledge when the delegation from the Lower Benue Basin Development Authority, led by its Chairman, Dr. Amos Gizo paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Having congratulated them on their well-deserved appointments, the SGF said that he is confident that they have all it takes to deliver on their mandate. He also assured them that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to providing all the necessary support to enable them deliver effectively.
He further stressed that as the nation’s population grows exponentially, it may also have an adverse implication on food security. He therefore urged them to bring their wealth of experience to bear in ensuring that the nation has enough food to feed Nigerians and the rest of West Africa.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Lower Benue Basin Development Authority, Dr. Amos Gizo thanked the SGF for finding them worthy to pilot the affairs of the sector. He assured him that they are poised to improve on food production through the instrumentality of irrigation to achieve three seasons of farming in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also called for collaboration with relevant Agencies of Government to ensure the realisation of food security in the country.
Part of the mandates of the RBDAs is to develop both surface and underground water resources within their operational areas by constructing, operating and maintaining irrigation systems to support agricultural activities and ensure all-year-round crop production.
